The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 11 minutes into the match, Marshrose's goal looked a bit too open when Wágner Recife came free, but Hélio Arósio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 14 minutes into the match, Marshrose's Derrick Osborne sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Santana Armada narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Vancouver Reds's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wágner Recife was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 25 minutes into the match, Vancouver Reds's goal looked a bit too open when Amédée Gillis came free, but Santana Armada reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hélio Arósio came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by Vancouver Reds's Saverio Niva. But to his dismay, Saverio Niva quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Hélio Arósio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Saverio Niva in the 30th minute of play. Hélio Arósio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Saverio Niva, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Vancouver Reds's attentive Louie Mulford managed to snatch the ball when Bara Miss made a throw-in in the 36th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Saverio Niva in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hélio Arósio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Hélio Arósio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wágner Recife, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. The supporters of Vancouver Reds booed when Marshrose was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bernardo Bourgouin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vancouver Reds made a substitution. Roberto Perfumo replaced Louie Mulford. One of Marshrose:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Vancouver Reds:s goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Heath Akins to make the kick off. In the 70th minute Wágner Recife shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hélio Arósio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Vancouver Reds eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
