Arlindo Queirós showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Célio Loureiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Arlindo Queirós was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Célio Loureiro showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 15 minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Deportivo Cruz Azul's zone, Duarte Lago stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Amauri de Azevedo came out of the goal and Duarte Lago tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Raphael Azevedo during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Amauri de Azevedo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Duarte Lago, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Duarte Lago fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Amauri de Azevedo having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Deportivo Cruz Azul's Fred Quaresma got a free kick in the 25th minute. In the 29th match minute, Deportivo Cruz Azul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luís Fabiano Silva to maneuver through the defense. Duarte Lago struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

The referee showed Renatinho Prestes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Deportivo Cruz Azul booed when Pore SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Renatinho Prestes didn't get a good kick on the ball.
