The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sabino Santana in the 4th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Chiquinho Machado saved Atlético Gaucho from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Atlético Gaucho's Zé Paulo Koehler got a free kick in the 4th minute. In the 5th minute, Zé Paulo Koehler hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Atlético Gaucho's Chiquinho Machado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mauro Zanette in the 12th minute of play. When Zé Roberto Leão fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Atlético Gaucho's protests and gave Zé Roberto Leão a yellow card for diving instead. Jeferson Mazza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Natanael Galvão, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Manuel Valadares got free with Jeferson Mazza in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Chiquinho Machado stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sabino Santana's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. With a little luck, Atlético Gaúcho's Jeferson Mazza got control of the ball when Manuel Valadares tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 25thth minute of the game Sabino Santana who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Atlético Gaucho's Chiquinho Machado was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Manuel Valadares came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Atlético Gaucho fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manuel Valadares couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Natanael Galvão managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Gaucho's supporters rose to their feet, but Natanael Galvão was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jeferson Mazza breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Manuel Valadares got free with Jeferson Mazza in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Natanael Galvão took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Jeferson Mazza to make any attempt to save it. Natanael Galvão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeferson Mazza having to interfere.

Natanael Galvão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeferson Mazza having to interfere. Manuel Valadares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jeferson Mazza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Natanael Galvão in the 64th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 65 minutes, Sabino Santana took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Chiquinho Machado to make any attempt to save it. In the 70th minute, Atlético Gaúcho's Sabino Santana ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Chiquinho Machado. Chiquinho Machado yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-2. If Manuel Valadares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Atlético Gaúcho's Sabino Santana got a free kick in the 86th minute. In the 90th minute, Atlético Gaúcho's Eusébio Tande ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Chiquinho Machado. Chiquinho Machado yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-3. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Silvinho Bittencourt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Gaúcho's supporters rose to their feet, but Silvinho Bittencourt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Chiquinho Machado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Eusébio Tande sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Atlético Gaúcho's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
