The audience was convinced that Edinho Queirós's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Edgar Aparecido was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. When the match had gone on for 25 minutes, Bebeto Arósio put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Edgar Aparecido. Edgar Aparecido was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bebeto Arósio was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Itaibo getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Dário Moreira hit a great ball. Zé Paulo da Rocha struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Edgar Aparecido came out of the goal and Edinho Queirós tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Joaquim dos Santos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dadá Reis in the 77th minute of play. In the 79th minute, Arthur Sampaio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Edinho Queirós sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bebeto Arósio in the 84th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Edgar Aparecido saved YouTube Futebol Clube from getting behind. If Leopoldo Motta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 96th minute Leopoldo Motta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquim dos Santos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Itaibo supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Itaibo would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
