BRAZIL MG's Oswaldo Schmidt got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Oswaldo Schmidt recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Wanderson Moreira succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 14th playminute. In the 26th minute of the match, Zeca Mesquita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Leonardo França was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. If Zeca Mesquita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amílton Alves struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Válbson Leão didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for BRAZIL MG. Válbson Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amílton Alves in the 35th minute of play. Silvério Vidal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Válbson Leão having to interfere. After 47 played minutes BRAZIL MG got a freekick which was hit by Chico Donato. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Amílton Alves to strike the kick off in the second half. Válbson Leão made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Silvério Vidal sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, BRAZIL MG's Toninho Chaves got a free kick in the 53rd minute. The audience was convinced that Oswaldo Schmidt's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Válbson Leão was relentless in the 62nd minute of the game. Válbson Leão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oswaldo Schmidt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andrézinho Matorin in the 74th minute of play forced BRAZIL MG's goalkeeper Leonardo França to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 80th minute of the match, Oswaldo Schmidt tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Válbson Leão saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The audience was convinced that Amílton Alves's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Válbson Leão was relentless in the 85th minute of the game. With a little luck, Xatelodo's Válbson Leão got control of the ball when Silvério Vidal tried to sneak it across the goal line.
