Olívio Macedo, 28 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Ediberto Albuquerque managed to get in a good position for a shot. Meirim's supporters rose to their feet, but Ediberto Albuquerque was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lúcio Mendonça breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cuparaque FC's Lúcio Mendonça played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Fabiano Hames in the 35th minute of play. Zézinho Castro didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gino Meira went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. The supporters of Meirim booed when Cuparaque FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilton Porto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Edinho Veiga to make the kick off. Cuparaque FC's Lúcio Mendonça played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ediberto Albuquerque in the 65th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ediberto Albuquerque in the 70th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lúcio Mendonça saved Cuparaque FC from getting behind. When Luiz Fabiano Hames came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Meirim fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Fabiano Hames couldn't finish the play. In the 77th minute Luiz Fabiano Hames shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lúcio Mendonça saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Claudinho Corrêa kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Ediberto Albuquerque fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lúcio Mendonça having to interfere. Lúcio Mendonça stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luiz Fabiano Hames's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. Gino Meira could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 89th minute of the match, but Zézinho Castro made a huge save. In the 91st minute, Wilton Porto ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Zézinho Castro was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Edinho Veiga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zézinho Castro having to interfere.
