Tião Madureira kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. Jerônimo Valadares's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Serginho Lira read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 9th minute of play. 10 minutes into the match, A.S.São Caetano's Fábio Eger sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Serginho Lira narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 13 minutes into the game, Fábio Eger cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Serginho Lira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A.S.São Caetano's Fábio Eger got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fábio Eger might have been able to make a better finish in the 23rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Serginho Lira. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fábio Eger ran back to his position shaking his head. 24 minutes into the game, one of Aiuruoca:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Jerônimo Valadares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 35 minutes into the match, Aiuruoca's goal looked a bit too open when Fábio Eger came free, but Serginho Lira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, A.S.São Caetano's Manolo Neto got a free kick in the 38th minute. If Jerônimo Valadares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eliézer Gerber kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. After the first half A.S.São Caetano were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Zé Paulo da Mata stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 56th minute, one of Aiuruoca:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Aiuruoca. Serginho Lira had in the 57thth minute some difficulties stopping Fábio Eger's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Jerônimo Valadares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Serginho Lira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Aiuruoca booed when A.S.São Caetano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fábio Eger didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mané Nóbrega showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zé Paulo da Mata, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. A collision led to A.S.São Caetano getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Manolo Neto hit a great ball. Zé Paulo da Mata sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Fábio Eger came up free with the goalie in the 82nd minute, the A.S.São Caetano fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fábio Eger couldn't finish the play. Serginho Lira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jerônimo Valadares in the 84th minute of play. After having played for 87 minutes, Fábio Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. A.S.São Caetano's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fábio Eger was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Eliézer Gerber hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Aiuruoca's Serginho Lira got control of the ball when Fábio Eger tried to sneak it across the goal line. Serginho Lira came out of the goal in the 98th minute to try and stop a shot by A.S.São Caetano's Fábio Eger. But to his dismay, Fábio Eger quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-5. When the final whistle sounded A.S.São Caetano left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Aiuruoca.
