The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 3 minutes, Edgar Arantes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Olario SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edgar Arantes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Doni Sampaio stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edgar Arantes's shot from short distance in the 7th minute. EC Santo André's Doni Sampaio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Humberto Xavier in the 8th minute of play. Filipe Pimenta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jarbas Catarinense in the 13th minute of play. In the 18th minute Edgar Arantes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Doni Sampaio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of EC Santo André booed when Olario SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edgar Arantes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Washington Hermes's late challenge caught a Olario SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Washington Hermes helped the player get up and apologised. If Washington Hermes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience was convinced that Jarbas Catarinense's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Filipe Pimenta was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. A collision led to Olario SS getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Humberto Xavier hit a great ball. That made the score 3-2 in the 85 minute of play. The supporters of Olario SS booed when EC Santo André was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristian Queirós didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The EC Santo André fans cheered their team off the field, for while Olario SS had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
