The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Giovanni Travassos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nuno Abreu in the 6th minute of play. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Paulo Ramos couldn't finish the play. Luiz Paulo Ramos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giovanni Travassos having to interfere. After some careless play in the União Agrícola Barbarense defense, Nuno Abreu kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Giovanni Travassos. The União Agrícola Barbarense fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Giovanni Travassos should have stopped the shot. 20 minutes into the game, Ricardinho Mesquita recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Pedro Luís Tande. Ricardinho Mesquita showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. If Dedé Leme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Os Espartanos's Luiz Paulo Ramos got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nuno Abreu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giovanni Travassos having to interfere. Ricardinho Mesquita charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ricardinho Mesquita the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Os Espartanos booed when União Agrícola Barbarense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricardinho Mesquita didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 45th minute, Clemente Motta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Reginaldo Arce to make the kick off. Pedro Luís Tande showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Reginaldo Arce, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Ricardinho Mesquita hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Nuno Abreus short, quick shot in the 54thth minute got Giovanni Travassos to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 56th minute, Luiz Paulo Ramos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Douglas Tepedino hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. In the 62nd minute Dedé Leme shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Luís Tande saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 64 minutes of play União Agrícola Barbarense's Ricardinho Mesquita was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 66 minutes into the match, Os Espartanos's Conrado de Souza broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 68th minute, Luiz Paulo Ramos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nuno Abreu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 72nd minute of the match, but Giovanni Travassos made a huge save. Carlos Eduardo Damião sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dedé Leme fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Luís Tande having to interfere. 79 minutes into the game, União Agrícola Barbarense's Dedé Leme nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Pedro Luís Tande made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. After 83 played minutes União Agrícola Barbarense got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Eduardo Damião. União Agrícola Barbarense's Dedé Leme got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dedé Leme fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Luís Tande having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the Os Espartanos players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for União Agrícola Barbarense.
