Cacá Andrade showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Róbson Maranhense, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. Cacá Andrade came out of the goal in the 5th minute to try and stop a shot by Cruzeiro EC's Raphael Sanches. But to his dismay, Raphael Sanches quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Válter Cavalcante took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geovânio Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In a very dangerous position, a player in Cruzeiro EC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 10th minute. Penalty! Geovânio Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 17th minute Róbson Maranhense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cacá Andrade saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 18 minutes into the match, Bocapaulista's goal looked a bit too open when Raphael Sanches came free, but Cacá Andrade reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Miguel Messias kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, Bocapaulista's Marquinhos Rodrigues tried to score from far away in the 27th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Cacá Andrade took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raphael Sanches, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pedro Luiz Amorim charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Pedro Luiz Amorim the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 40 played minutes Cruzeiro EC got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Luiz Amorim. If Tomás de Moraes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 46th minute of the game, Pedro Augusto Furtado landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dieguinho Braga during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 47th minute, Dieguinho Braga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Róbson Maranhense to make the kick off. Edmílson Diniz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Válter Cavalcante tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee felt a red card was in order, 62 minutes into the game, when Luís Guilherme Nascimento put in a rough tackle. 62 minutes into the game, one of Bocapaulista:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The goalkeeper, Cacá Andrade, was totally fooled by Cruzeiro EC's Adelino Hoffmann, who 64 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. If Edmílson Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luiz Gustavo Simão hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Róbson Maranhense in the 74th minute of play forced Bocapaulista's goalkeeper Cacá Andrade to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Válter Cavalcante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Betão Baptista in the 80th minute of the match. Geovânio Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Raphael Sanches was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 90th minute. Cruzeiro EC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Róbson Maranhense struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Cacá Andrade didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cruzeiro EC. If Róbson Maranhense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 99th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Cruzeiro EC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
