Antônio Carlos Cabral made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Saraiva's Danilo Paes got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Antônio Carlos Cabral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Benjamin Custódio, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Zé Paulo Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over David Cosme. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zé Paulo Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Patrick Lara took a quick shot and it went in 3-1 without a chance for Antônio Carlos Cabral to make any attempt to save it. Luisão Saraiva's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Antônio Carlos Cabral read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-1 at half-time.
