In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Bomba FC's goalkeeper Betinho de Toledo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Bomba FC's zone, Valdo Quadros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Betinho de Toledo came out of the goal and Valdo Quadros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Noel Borges in the 35th minute of play forced Bomba FC's goalkeeper Betinho de Toledo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Bomba FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Betinho de Toledo should have stopped the shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hudson Faria to make the kick off. If Richard Gomes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute.
