The audience was convinced that Jefferson Vander's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Agostinho Marquez was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Jefferson Vander recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 29 played minutes Athletico Paranaense got a freekick which was hit by Manoel Berger. In the 36thth minute of the game Jefferson Vander who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Athletico Paranaense's Agostinho Marquez was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 40th minute, Jefferson Vander ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Agostinho Marquez was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Jefferson Vander managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sipeva EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Jefferson Vander was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Agostinho Marquez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Alfredo de Carvalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Jefferson Vander had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Athletico Paranaense players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Sipeva EC were winning 0-2.

Athletico Paranaense's Agostinho Marquez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Athletico Paranaense from getting a goal against them. When Luís Paulo Lima fell near the penalty area in the 63rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Athletico Paranaense's protests and gave Luís Paulo Lima a yellow card for diving instead. In the 64th minute, Luís Paulo Lima hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Joélson Corrêa fell near the penalty area in the 80th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sipeva EC's protests and gave Joélson Corrêa a yellow card for diving instead. After 80 played minutes Sipeva EC got a freekick which was hit by Joélson Corrêa. When Luís Paulo Lima was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 91 minutes had been played. In the 92nd minute, Luís Paulo Lima hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
