The supporters of U. S. Soccer booed when Real Clube Celta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kauã Nunes didn't get a good kick on the ball. U. S. Soccer's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Luiz Fernando de Barros in the 13th minute. After taking down the ball on U. S. Soccer's corner Luiz Fernando de Barros fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and José Barros quite easily take care of the ball. Benedito Neto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vicente Guedes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 19th minute Jarbas do Valle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benedito Neto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 36th match minute, U. S. Soccer was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Váldson Esteves to maneuver through the defense. Jarbas do Valle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benedito Neto having to interfere.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bernardinho Penha to strike the kick off in the second half. U. S. Soccer's Benedito Neto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vicente Guedes in the 51st minute of play. Jean Loureiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Barros having to interfere. In the 55th minute, Edmílson Vides hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bernardinho Penha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Vicente Guedes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benedito Neto was relentless in the 70th minute of the game. Bernardinho Penha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
