Rafael Toscano stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nilton Mattos's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. 25 minutes into the match, FC PILÂO's goal looked a bit too open when Jacinto Araújo came free, but Rafael Toscano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match clock showed 26 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Robinho Castro sped through FC PILÂO's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Rafael Toscano. Dorival Dantas lost his temper 29 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The crowd rose to their feet as FC PILÂO's Cesinha Trevisan slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jarbas Tasso. That made the score 1-2 after 31 minutes of play. If Roger Pombal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nilton Mattos might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rafael Toscano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nilton Mattos ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, FC PILÂO's Antônio Gomes got a free kick in the 39th minute. In a very dangerous position, a player in FC PILÂO fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 39th minute. Penalty! Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Victor Bertassi hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Dinei Esteves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Robinho Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rafael Toscano having to interfere. When Robinho Castro came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Cruzeiro S.A fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Robinho Castro couldn't finish the play. Rafael Toscano was out of position in the 87 minute of play, and Nilton Mattos capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Nilton Mattos really showed his touch with that goal: 1-5. Victor Bertassi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Rafael Toscano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 94 minutes into the game, Antônio Gomes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC PILÂO's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cruzeiro S.A the free kick. In the 94th minute, Antônio Gomes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cruzeiro S.A's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
