Barcellos's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luiz Fábio Toledo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. Ceará S.A's Virgílio Fontes got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Barcellos booed when Ceará S.A was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anders Andreasson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 39th minute, Luiz Fábio Toledo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ceará S.A fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. After a defensive mix-up in Barcellos's zone, Luiz Fábio Toledo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulo Renato Meira came out of the goal and Luiz Fábio Toledo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

Rodrigo Camargo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Germano Lira having to make a save. After having played for 64 minutes, Luiz Fábio Toledo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ceará S.A's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luiz Fábio Toledo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Germano Lira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vivaldo Neiva in the 68th minute of the match. Paulo Renato Meira stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luiz Fábio Toledo's shot from short distance in the 73rd minute. 77 minutes into the game, Vivaldo Neiva was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Barcellos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ceará S.A the free kick. After 77 played minutes Barcellos got a freekick which was hit by Vivaldo Neiva. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Luiz Fábio Toledo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ceará S.A's supporters rose to their feet, but Luiz Fábio Toledo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paulo Renato Meira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Luiz Fábio Toledo came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Ceará S.A fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Fábio Toledo couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Barcellos getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. William Eger hit a great ball. After 89 played minutes Virgílio Fontes rounded Barcellos's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 0-8. 93 minutes in the game, Amadeu Britto fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Paulo Renato Meira having to interfere. Ceará S.A's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
