A collision led to Barcelona FC getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Clóvis Nogueira hit a great ball. Oscar Tasso took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 13th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Geovanni Alves. Barcelona FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Geovanni Alves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Abelardo Vieira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Geovanni Alves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jairo Barreto in the 24th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Abelardo Vieira in the 26th minute of play forced Barcelona FC's goalkeeper Geovanni Alves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Grêmio MZF's Nicolas Soares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caco Lago in the 28th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Abelardo Vieira to make the kick off. Barcelona FC's Geovanni Alves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abelardo Vieira in the 51st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nico Barral in the 54th minute of play forced Grêmio MZF's goalkeeper Nicolas Soares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Abelardo Vieira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geovanni Alves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Grêmio MZF. Olavo Soares hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. In the 92nd minute of the match Sílvio Berger shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Geovanni Alves showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Barcelona FC's Geovanni Alves proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 94th minute of the match, managed to save Barcelona FC from getting a goal against them. 96 minutes into the match, Grêmio MZF's goal looked a bit too open when Nico Barral came free, but Nicolas Soares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
