But to his dismay, Conrado Bastos quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After a defensive mix-up in Chuva de Fogo's zone, Ronaldinho Barros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geovanni Monteiro came out of the goal and Ronaldinho Barros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ronaldinho Barros in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Geovanni Monteiro prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldinho Barros in the 18th minute of play forced Chuva de Fogo's goalkeeper Geovanni Monteiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Paulo Valladares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Conrado Bastos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Conrado Bastos took the ball and in the 27 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Geovanni Monteiro. Geovanni Monteiro dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Conrado Bastos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geovanni Monteiro having to interfere. Didi de Brito made an important save on a dangerous shot by Geovanni Mendonça in the 35th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Conrado Bastos in the 42nd minute of play forced Chuva de Fogo's goalkeeper Geovanni Monteiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Didi de Brito showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Telmo de Queiroz, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Paulo Valladares stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Didi de Brito made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Valladares in the 57th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Maurício Goiano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Itaju's supporters rose to their feet, but Maurício Goiano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Geovanni Monteiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Valladares in the 64th minute of play forced Itaju's goalkeeper Didi de Brito to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Itaju booed when Chuva de Fogo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Luís Rocha didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Itaju's Maurício Goiano got a free kick in the 76th minute. In the 87th match minute, Chuva de Fogo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ernani Veiga to maneuver through the defense. Ronaldinho Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Itaju players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Chuva de Fogo from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
