The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Edgar do Valle's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gerson Schmidt prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Luiz Gustavo do Vale's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gerson Schmidt was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. After 16 minutes of play, Rio Negro do Norte's Adriano Baiano made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ronaldo Duarte couldn't finish the play. Gerson Schmidt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adriano Baiano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Luiz Gustavo do Vale's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gerson Schmidt was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. With 55 minutes on the clock, Ronaldão Pontes commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Rio Negro do Norte fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 55th minute. Penalty! In the 57th minute there was a penalty for Grêmio Atlético Paulista. Raimundo Ortiz stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Duarte Tróia. 2-3. Gerson Schmidt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edward Juzda in the 64th minute of play. Edgar do Valle kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. Geovânio Capixaba fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gerson Schmidt having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edgar do Valle in the 72nd minute of play forced Rio Negro do Norte's goalkeeper Duarte Tróia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 77 minutes, Ronaldo Duarte managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rio Negro do Norte's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ronaldo Duarte was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 86th minute Edgar do Valle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Duarte Tróia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Grêmio Atlético Paulista's Gerson Schmidt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldo Duarte in the 87th minute of play. Adriano Baiano blasted a shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gerson Schmidt having to make a save. After 94 played minutes Ronaldo Duarte rounded Grêmio Atlético Paulista's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-4. In the 98th minute, Rio Negro do Norte's Ronaldo Duarte ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Gerson Schmidt. Gerson Schmidt yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-5. When the match was over Rio Negro do Norte could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Grêmio Atlético Paulista throughout the match.
