But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adhemar Senna couldn't finish the play. If Eliseu Massa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 18th minute, Vivaldo Queirós got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Geremeira getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Norberto Dionísio hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Geremeira's zone, Oscar Lucas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gino Berger came out of the goal and Oscar Lucas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Adhemar Senna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diogo Prestes having to interfere. Gino Berger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oscar Lucas, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Gino Berger stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Oscar Lucas's shot from short distance in the 95th minute. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Geremeira eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
