An unexpectedly hard shot by André Travassos in the 10th minute of play forced Locomotives's goalkeeper Chicão Capixaba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dráuzio Saraiva recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match had gone on for 19 minutes, Luizão Maranhense put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Aílton Andrade. Dráuzio Saraiva scored 1-1 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Chicão Capixaba, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Luizão Maranhense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aílton Andrade having to interfere. Aílton Andrade made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francisco Brodel in the 34th minute of play. The Rio de Janeiro F. C. fans' excitement grew in the 36th match minute when Rio de Janeiro F. C.'s André Travassos looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Aílton Andrade didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 45th minute, which inside left pole to 2-2. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dráuzio Saraiva was the one to do the kick off. Luizão Maranhense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aílton Andrade having to interfere. 59 minutes into the game, Nelson Novaes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. In the 59th match minute, Locomotives was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nelson Novaes to maneuver through the defense. 60 minutes into the match, Locomotives's goalkeeper Chicão Capixaba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by André Travassos. In the 67th minute, Luizão Maranhense got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Francisco Brodel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aílton Andrade having to interfere. After 75 played minutes Locomotives got a freekick which was hit by Zézinho Correia. André Travassos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Chicão Capixaba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luizão Maranhense in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Aílton Andrade saved Rio de Janeiro F. C. from getting behind. In the 84thth minute of the game Francisco Brodel who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rio de Janeiro F. C.'s Aílton Andrade was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 86th minute, Nelson Novaes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. André Travassos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Chicão Capixaba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 92nd minute Dráuzio Saraiva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chicão Capixaba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Francisco Brodel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Aílton Andrade was relentless in the 94th minute of the game. The supporters of Locomotives booed when Rio de Janeiro F. C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oséias Tepedino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
