After a defensive mix-up in Vermelhos's zone, Rodriguinho Brodel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Otávio Zonta came out of the goal and Rodriguinho Brodel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Róbson Pires took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Orlando Meirelles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Raimundo Gonçalves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Raimundo Gonçalves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Róbson Pires having to interfere. Raimundo Gonçalves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Róbson Pires tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Víktor Chaves kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. After having played for 30 minutes, Raimundo Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vermelhos's defense didn't have a chance, in the 32nd minute, when Washington Batista scored to the left of an out of position Otávio Zonta, making the score, 1-0. In the 46th minute of the match João Augusto da Cunha sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Róbson Pires skillfully saved the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Vermelhos's Raimundo Gonçalves got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Orlando Meirelles recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ian Abraão's late challenge caught a Uruguaiana's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ian Abraão helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Vermelhos's Ian Abraão got a free kick in the 60th minute. Raimundo Gonçalves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Róbson Pires having to make a save. Uruguaiana's Donato Travassos managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Marco Severo in the 70 minute of the game. Otávio Zonta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rodriguinho Brodel in the 71st minute of play.
