In the 11th match minute, VILA NOVA F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sydney Bastos to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vito Barreto during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When the match had been going on for 14 minutes, Futideia FC's José Pedro Maia got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Olavo de Andrade. Eduardo Falcão succeeded in the game's 23rd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-0. In the 29th minute of the match Futideia FC got a corner. VILA NOVA F.C.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. José Pedro Maia ran over to the corner to take the kick. Lenílson Pires's late challenge caught a Futideia FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lenílson Pires helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to VILA NOVA F.C. getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Lenílson Pires hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, José Pedro Maia managed to get in a good position for a shot. Futideia FC's supporters rose to their feet, but José Pedro Maia was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Olavo de Andrade breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Futideia FC's Alfredinho Dracena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vivaldo Perez in the 32nd minute of play. Egídio Linhares's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Olavo de Andrade read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lars Nordstedt in the 36th minute of play forced VILA NOVA F.C.'s goalkeeper Olavo de Andrade to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nildo de Toledo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Olavo de Andrade made a huge save. 45 minutes into the match, VILA NOVA F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Egídio Linhares came free, but Olavo de Andrade reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in VILA NOVA F.C.'s zone, Nildo de Toledo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Olavo de Andrade came out of the goal and Nildo de Toledo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vivaldo Perez to make the kick off. A collision led to Futideia FC getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Claudinei de Moraes hit a great ball. After 63 played minutes VILA NOVA F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Valdir Xavier. Sílvio Luís Paraense was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 66 minutes into the match. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Olavo de Andrade showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 69th minute Eduardo Falcão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olavo de Andrade saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Lenílson Pires managed to get in a good position for a shot. VILA NOVA F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Lenílson Pires was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Olavo de Andrade didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Futideia FC. Egídio Linhares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Olavo de Andrade tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 89th minute, Nildo de Toledo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Futideia FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1.
