In the 3rd minute of the game, Benedito Barreto landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. After 3 minutes, Bruninho Novaes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sophia AJ Clube and the Divino players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 3rd match minute, Sophia AJ Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bruninho Novaes to maneuver through the defense. If Carlos Alberto Velloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. César Santana received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Carlos Eduardo Montenegro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Manuel Netto came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Sophia AJ Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manuel Netto couldn't finish the play. 15 minutes into the game, Carlos Alberto Velloso cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Richard Baptista was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Carlos Eduardo Montenegro made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when César Santana sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Divino defense, César Santana kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Carlos Eduardo Montenegro. The Divino fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Carlos Eduardo Montenegro should have stopped the shot. Carlos Eduardo Montenegro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manuel Netto, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Richard Baptista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Alberto Velloso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Márcio de Alcântara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Richard Baptista showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Velloso in the 37th minute of the match. Richard Baptista made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Salgado in the 38th minute of play. Manuel Netto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Eduardo Montenegro having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Manuel Netto kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Carlos Eduardo Montenegro. That made the score 2-1 in the 48 minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Carlos Alberto Velloso stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute Carlos Alberto Velloso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Baptista saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 59 minutes, César Santana managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sophia AJ Clube's supporters crossed their fingers, but César Santana was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 61 minutes into the game, Márcio de Alcântara was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Divino's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sophia AJ Clube the free kick. Silas da Silva hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. After 69 minutes of play Sophia AJ Clube's Bruninho Novaes was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After a rather tough play, Sophia AJ Clube's Bruninho Novaes got a free kick in the 69th minute. In the 72nd minute of the match Zé Pedro Arantes sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Richard Baptista skillfully saved the ball. Alfredo Salgado hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, César Santana managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sophia AJ Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but César Santana was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Eduardo Montenegro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 81 played minutes Divino got a freekick which was hit by Márcio de Alcântara. Faustão Teles hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. If Arí Cerezo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. César Santana struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Carlos Eduardo Montenegro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sophia AJ Clube. Túlio Fantini recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. César Santana scored 3-1 in the 99th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Carlos Eduardo Montenegro, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Sophia AJ Clube's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
