The referee felt a red card was in order, 4 minutes into the game, when Wellington Moreno put in a rough tackle. In the 5th match minute, Tabuleirao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wellington Moreno to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Tabuleirao's zone, João Carlos Campidelis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dida Medeiros came out of the goal and João Carlos Campidelis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dida Medeiros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adriano Pinheiro in the 14th minute of the match. In the 15th match minute, Tabuleirao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adalberto Toledo to maneuver through the defense. Ramiro Mello fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valdo Xavier having to interfere. When Wilton Borges fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tabuleirao's protests and gave Wilton Borges a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Avatarnense booed when Tabuleirao was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilton Borges didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tabuleirao's Dida Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edmundo Varela in the 23rd minute of play. João Carlos Campidelis scored 0-1 in the 26th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dida Medeiros, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Evaristo Furlan in the 31st minute of play forced Tabuleirao's goalkeeper Dida Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Carlos de Queirós kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. After 40 played minutes Avatarnense got a freekick which was hit by João Carlos Campidelis. 45 minutes into the game, Avatarnense's Adriano Pinheiro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dida Medeiros made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. The Tabuleirao players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Avatarnense were winning 0-2.

After some careless play in the Tabuleirao defense, Adriano Pinheiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dida Medeiros. The Tabuleirao fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dida Medeiros should have stopped the shot. Avatarnense's Valdo Xavier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ramiro Mello in the 66th minute of play. João Carlos Campidelis kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. Dida Medeiros was out of position in the 69 minute of play, and Adriano Pinheiro capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Adriano Pinheiro really showed his touch with that goal: 0-4. Dida Medeiros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edmundo Varela in the 73rd minute of the match. Wilton Borges's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valdo Xavier read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 81st minute of play. In the 86th match minute, Avatarnense was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edmundo Varela to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Tabuleirao defense, Wellington Cardozo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dida Medeiros. The Tabuleirao fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dida Medeiros should have stopped the shot. When the final whistle sounded Avatarnense left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Tabuleirao.
