A collision led to Corinthians sp getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Iuri Aguiar hit a great ball. After 9 minutes, Gugu Recife mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Corinthians sp and the Avatarnense players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 13th minute, Gugu Recife made a precise shot to the right of Valdo Xavier. Avatarnense's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Valdo Xavier stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nelson Cerezo's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. Valdo Xavier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelson Cerezo in the 24th minute of play. Avatarnense's Valdo Xavier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gugu Recife in the 26th minute of play. Gugu Recife fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valdo Xavier having to interfere. After 34 minutes of play, Corinthians sp's Nelson Cerezo made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Valdo Xavier was left in no man's land by his defense there! 38 minutes into the match, Nelson Cerezo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Valdo Xavier. Avatarnense's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nelson Cerezo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. In the 41st minute, Nelson Cerezo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Valdo Xavier was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. In the 46th minute, Nelson Cerezo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Corinthians sp fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. After the first half Corinthians sp were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edmundo Varela stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the game, Durvalino de Amorim was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Avatarnense's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Corinthians sp the free kick. In the 55th minute, Durvalino de Amorim hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gildo Montenegro lost his temper 58 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Avatarnense fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 57th minute. Penalty! 67 minutes into the match, Avatarnense's goalkeeper Valdo Xavier had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nelson Cerezo. 72 minutes into the match, Adriano Pinheiro notched a goal, 1-6, to the right of Corinthians sp's Tony Freire. Tony Freire was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Hélder Koehler fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Avatarnense's protests and gave Hélder Koehler a yellow card for diving instead. 75 minutes into the game, one of Avatarnense:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Valdo Xavier went to the wrong direction when Rodrigo Carioca was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Adriano Pinheiro charged in rather forcefully in the 80th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Adriano Pinheiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Adriano Pinheiro hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Gugu Recife blasted a shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Valdo Xavier having to make a save. Nelson Cerezo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match had gone on for 97 minutes, Gugu Recife took a quick shot and it went in 1-8 without a chance for Valdo Xavier to make any attempt to save it. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Corinthians sp had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
