The audience thought a goal was coming when Frank França got free with Jeferson Xavier in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 16 minutes into the game, Duarte Barral was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Boca Juniors's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chapecoense the free kick. Duarte Barral kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. In the 18th minute, Frank Toscano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Diamantino Vides in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mathias Sabóia saved Boca Juniors from getting behind. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gilberto Galvão during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Flávio Paraibano got free with Jeferson Xavier in the 25th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jeferson Xavier made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Frank França sent off a good shot on target. Tomé de Toledo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mathias Sabóia read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 33rd minute of play. Diamantino Vides sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Boca Juniors's Flávio Paraibano slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jeferson Xavier. That made the score 2-1 after 38 minutes of play. 45 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Diamantino Vides came free, but Mathias Sabóia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 47th minute, Diamantino Vides ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mathias Sabóia was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Frank França stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Flávio Paraibano in the 63rd minute of play forced Chapecoense's goalkeeper Jeferson Xavier to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Elói Campidelis's late challenge caught a Boca Juniors's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Elói Campidelis helped the player get up and apologised. In the 64th minute, Elói Campidelis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Boca Juniors's Mathias Sabóia got control of the ball when Diamantino Vides tried to sneak it across the goal line. Chapecoense's Diamantino Vides got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Chapecoense booed when Boca Juniors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emerson Veiga didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Chapecoense's Diamantino Vides slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mathias Sabóia. That made the score 3-3 after 81 minutes of play. After having played for 85 minutes, Elói Campidelis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Chapecoense's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elói Campidelis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jeferson Xavier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Frank França, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. Jeferson Xavier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Frank França in the 94th minute of play. Mathias Sabóia showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Diamantino Vides in the 96th minute of the match. After 98 played minutes Boca Juniors got a freekick which was hit by Emerson Veiga. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Chapecoense players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
