An unexpectedly hard shot by Reynaldo Sampaio in the 3rd minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Jonas Soares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 6 minutes into the game, Real Alvinegro FC's Tomé Silva nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jonas Soares made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Jonas Soares came out of the goal in the 9th minute to try and stop a shot by Real Alvinegro FC's Reynaldo Sampaio. But to his dismay, Reynaldo Sampaio quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Real Alvinegro FC's Reginaldo Amaral proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Real Alvinegro FC from getting a goal against them. After a rather tough play, Real Alvinegro FC's Simão Domingues got a free kick in the 17th minute. Marquinhos Toledo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Reginaldo Amaral read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. With an all-out effort, Palmeiras's Reginaldo Amaral threw himself towards the right post 22 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Maurinho Capixaba, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Reginaldo Amaral made an important save on a dangerous shot by Marquinhos Toledo in the 23rd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Palmeiras's zone, Reynaldo Sampaio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonas Soares came out of the goal and Reynaldo Sampaio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 33rd minute Reynaldo Sampaio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonas Soares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Reginaldo Amaral took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adriano de Queiroz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mathias Barral kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. In the 40th minute, Delfim Furlan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tomé Silva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Jonas Soares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 49th minute, Adriano de Queiroz reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Reginaldo Amaral. The goal made the score 1-2. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The wind increased when Tomé Silva made the kick off in the second half. When Palmeiras's Adriano de Queiroz in the 56th minute got a chance for a shot 56th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The audience thought a goal was coming when Reynaldo Sampaio got free with Jonas Soares in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Armandinho Marques hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. In the 64th minute, Otávio Matorin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Reginaldo Amaral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marquinhos Toledo, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. After 67 played minutes Real Alvinegro FC got a freekick which was hit by Simão Domingues. Real Alvinegro FC's Reginaldo Amaral played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marquinhos Toledo in the 68th minute of play. In the 69th minute, Francisco Pinho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Palmeiras booed when Real Alvinegro FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simão Domingues didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Real Alvinegro FC's zone, Marquinhos Toledo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Reginaldo Amaral came out of the goal and Marquinhos Toledo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marquinhos Toledo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Reginaldo Amaral having to make a save. Sebastião Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. If Reynaldo Sampaio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Palmeiras's Marquinhos Toledo got a good chance for a goal in the 100th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
