Luís Paulo Maciel was slow to take the kick. During this time Flamengo VM's players had a chance to rest. The audience cheered when Luís Paulo Maciel's long shot passed Arí Tróia's right side. It was 0-1, 17 minutes into the match. In the 20th match minute, Faro AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dagoberto Coelho to maneuver through the defense. Flamengo VM's Luís Paulo Maciel quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Abel Marinho, made in the 22nd minute of the game. Arí Tróia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Paulo Maciel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 46th minute, Luís Paulo Maciel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Blas Laurgain stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Valdir Paraibano came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Faro AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Valdir Paraibano couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Duda Sabóia during the 66th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Gustavo de Almeida came out of the goal in the 76th minute to try and stop a shot by Faro AD's Valdir Paraibano. But to his dismay, Valdir Paraibano quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. During the 79th minute of the match Luís Paulo Maciel completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Luís Paulo Maciel a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 80 played minutes Flamengo VM got a freekick which was hit by Luís Paulo Maciel. When Valério Guerra came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Faro AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Valério Guerra couldn't finish the play. Valdir Paraibano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Sidney Rosado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arí Tróia having to interfere. Ernani Barros's late challenge caught a Faro AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ernani Barros helped the player get up and apologised. Faro AD walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
