When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Luisão Vianna made a kick off. An unexpected shot in the 50th minute by Eusebio Txurio got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Flamengo Clube de Regatas's Luisão Vianna slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Naldo Montenegro. That made the score 1-2 after 53 minutes of play. Luisão Vianna's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Naldo Montenegro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. Eusebio Txurio was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 59th minute. Flamengo Clube de Regatas's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Sidnei Pimenta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Clube de Regatas Flamengo's supporters rose to their feet, but Sidnei Pimenta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ivo Melo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 69 minutes into the game, João Francisco Falcão was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. The coaching staff of Clube de Regatas Flamengo protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Dé Aparecido had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 88th minute of the game. João Francisco Nascimento walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Naldo Montenegro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eusebio Txurio, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute.
