After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Horácio Velloso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Escobar's supporters rose to their feet, but Horácio Velloso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Osmar Lopes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Tijucucu's Norberto Paraíba got a free kick in the 27th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Tijucucu's zone, Doru Bistreanu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Osmar Lopes came out of the goal and Doru Bistreanu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Doru Bistreanu came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the Escobar fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Doru Bistreanu couldn't finish the play. Doru Bistreanus short, quick shot in the 45thth minute got Osmar Lopes to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Dagoberto Faria showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hamílton de Azevedo, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. In the 47th minute, Tiago Gabriel Varela hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Cido Dante made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Norberto Paraíba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 53 minutes into the game, Natanael Borges was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Tijucucu's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Escobar the free kick. Osmar Lopes was left in no man's land by his defense there! Clayton Gerson's late challenge caught a Tijucucu's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Clayton Gerson helped the player get up and apologised. In the 61st match minute, Escobar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Clayton Gerson to maneuver through the defense. Dagoberto Faria was out of position in the 62 minute of play, and Cido Dante capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Cido Dante really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. Doru Bistreanu might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Osmar Lopes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Doru Bistreanu ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Escobar booed when Tijucucu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Téo Carioca didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Doru Bistreanu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Osmar Lopes was relentless in the 73rd minute of the game. Doru Bistreanu took the ball and in the 82 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Osmar Lopes. Osmar Lopes dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. If Doru Bistreanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 89 minutes, Hamílton de Azevedo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tijucucu and the Escobar players grew even worse after the yellow card. Hamílton de Azevedo kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. After having played for 91 minutes, Murillo Branco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Escobar's supporters crossed their fingers, but Murillo Branco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 94th minute Doru Bistreanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Osmar Lopes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Doru Bistreanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Osmar Lopes having to interfere.
