The audience thought a goal was coming when Cleiton Melo got free with André Santana in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cleiton Melo in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg André Santana saved Everton FC from getting behind. Cleiton Melo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. André Santana tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

In the 55th minute of the match Atlético Piauiense got a corner. Everton FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Eriberto de Toledo ran over to the corner to take the kick. It was a well-played corner which Cacá Macedo managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Belmiro da Costa's late challenge caught a Atlético Piauiense's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Belmiro da Costa helped the player get up and apologised. Belmiro da Costa hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. When Everton FC's José Paulo Queirós in the 60th minute got a chance for a shot 60th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The Everton FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that André Santana should have stopped the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Júlio Ramos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Everton FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Júlio Ramos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ulisses Porto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Atlético Piauiense's Inácio Sergipano got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Júlio Ramos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee ended the match the Atlético Piauiense players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
