Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Richard Araújo took the kick off in the first half of the match. If Pedro Paulo Catarinense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Joinville's César Cabral got a free kick in the 7th minute. Pedro Paulo Catarinense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oswaldo Passos having to interfere. The supporters of S.E. Palmeiras booed when Joinville was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Osvaldinho Dias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pedro Paulo Catarinense recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 17th minute Pedro Paulo Catarinense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oswaldo Passos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Joinville's zone, Richard Araújo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oswaldo Passos came out of the goal and Richard Araújo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Oswaldo Passos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Richard Araújo in the 24th minute of the match. In the 25th match minute, Joinville was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Túlio Alcântara to maneuver through the defense. In the 27th minute, César Cabral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Túlio Alcântara's late challenge caught a S.E. Palmeiras's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Túlio Alcântara helped the player get up and apologised. Túlio Alcântara kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. In the 32nd match minute, Joinville was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Túlio Alcântara to maneuver through the defense. Oswaldo Passos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Richard Araújo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 35 minutes, Pedro Paulo Catarinense managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. S.E. Palmeiras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedro Paulo Catarinense was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Richard Araújo got free in front of the goal in the 36th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Oswaldo Passos was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. S.E. Palmeiras's Ruben Quintero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Paulo Koehler in the 40th minute of play. Ruben Quintero made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Valdo de Lara sent off a good shot on target. With a little luck, S.E. Palmeiras's Ruben Quintero got control of the ball when Valdo de Lara tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ruben Quintero made an important save on a dangerous shot by João Paulo Koehler in the 47th minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

In the 52nd minute, Pedro Paulo Catarinense got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Valdo de Lara took the ball and in the 53 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ruben Quintero. Ruben Quintero dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. In the 62nd minute of the match, Pedro Paulo Catarinense got a very nice opportunity to score, but Oswaldo Passos was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Pedro Paulo Catarinense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Oswaldo Passos made a huge save. Joinville's Oswaldo Passos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Richard Araújo in the 71st minute of play. Valdo de Lara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Ruben Quintero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Valdo de Lara struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Ruben Quintero didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Joinville. Ruben Quintero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valdo de Lara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by Zé da Mata. After some careless play in the S.E. Palmeiras defense, Valdo de Lara kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ruben Quintero. The S.E. Palmeiras fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ruben Quintero should have stopped the shot. S.E. Palmeiras's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Joinville had won, even though S.E. Palmeiras had held more of the ball.
