After a rather tough play, Sambaitiba's Luís Paulo Travassos got a free kick in the 9th minute. In the 19th minute of the match, Ricardinho Recife got a very nice opportunity to score, but Walmir Novaes was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Luís Paulo Travassos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Luís Godoi having to interfere. Pedro Luís Godoi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Durvalino Recife's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. Sambaitiba's Durvalino Recife got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Pedro Luís Godoi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Durvalino Recife in the 39th minute of play. SF Aripuanã's Pedro Luís Godoi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Paulo Travassos in the 40th minute of play. Pedro Luís Godoi didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luís Paulo Travassos went, in the 42nd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. 46 minutes into the game, Fabiano Furlan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SF Aripuanã's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sambaitiba the free kick. Fabiano Furlan kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. Durvalino Recife might have been able to make a better finish in the 47th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Pedro Luís Godoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Durvalino Recife ran back to his position shaking his head. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luís Paulo Travassos to make the kick off. SF Aripuanã's Marco Ospin got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice moves Durvalino Recife could shoot a difficult shot in the 57th minute, which Pedro Luís Godoi however easily saved by the left post. Pedro Luís Godoi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Paulo Travassos, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Falcão de Queiroz hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Walmir Novaes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fabiano Furlan in the 66th minute of play. In the 66th match minute, Sambaitiba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Yuri Branco to maneuver through the defense. In the 68th minute of the match Rômulo Toledo sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Walmir Novaes skillfully saved the ball. Marcelinho Lopes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Walmir Novaes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 74 minutes into the match, Sambaitiba's goal looked a bit too open when Marco Ospin came free, but Walmir Novaes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 80th minute Luís Paulo Travassos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Luís Godoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Marcelinho Lopes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Walmir Novaes was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. Walmir Novaes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marco Ospin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
