To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 17 minutes, Adrianinho Neto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bonninal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adrianinho Neto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Arif Gaffar Başkara got free in front of the goal in the 18th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. João Carlos Barros was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. If Arif Gaffar Başkara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Bonninal booed when Flamengo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vivaldo Abraão didn't get a good kick on the ball. Adrianinho Neto did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 2-0 to the left of a surprised João Carlos Barros 30 minutes into the match. Luiz Fabiano de Azevedo charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luiz Fabiano de Azevedo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Bonninal booed when Flamengo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Fabiano de Azevedo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bonninal's Chicão de Senna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Laércio Cabral in the 40th minute of play. João Carlos Barros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adrianinho Neto, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. 44 minutes into the match, Ronaldo Nazario notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of Flamengo's João Carlos Barros. João Carlos Barros was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Adrianinho Neto made a kick off. In the 51st minute the ball was on its way in behind Flamengo's goalkeeper João Carlos Barros, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dalmo do Vale during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Cao Ling Yi replaced Arif Gaffar Başkara. Cao Ling Yi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. João Carlos Barros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Flamengo's João Carlos Barros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cao Ling Yi in the 61st minute of play. In the 71st minute, Adrianinho Neto ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. João Carlos Barros was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. If Cao Ling Yi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Flamengo's João Carlos Barros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reginaldo Hoffmann in the 85th minute of play. Ronaldo Nazario scored 6-0 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of João Carlos Barros, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Cao Ling Yi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Carlos Barros having to interfere. Delfim Cruz was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 95 minutes into the match. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Bonninal had played much better football throughout.
