In the 18th minute of the match Tony Ribeiro sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Percy de Almeida skillfully saved the ball. Emerson Cerezo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fábio Corrêa having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.
