Benjamim Mendes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 17 minutes into the game, Edson Batista was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. PALMEIRAS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Pekudei the free kick. A collision led to PALMEIRAS getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. After 23 played minutes Pekudei got a freekick which was hit by Iuri Maia. Benjamim Mendes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chicão de Medeiros, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Iuri Maia in the 27th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Severino Lima prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Iuri Maia was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 28th minute. Pekudei's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Benjamim Mendes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tarcisio Silveira, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. 31 minutes into the match, Pekudei's goal looked a bit too open when Chicão de Medeiros came free, but Benjamim Mendes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 32 minutes, Iuri Maia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pekudei's supporters crossed their fingers, but Iuri Maia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Alfredão Ferraz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pekudei's supporters rose to their feet, but Alfredão Ferraz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Severino Lima breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Iuri Maia made a kick off. After 50 played minutes PALMEIRAS got a freekick which was hit by Chicão de Medeiros. Vinícius Antunes's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Benjamim Mendes firmly grabbed it by the left post. PALMEIRAS's Severino Lima played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Humberto de Sena in the 54th minute of play. Chicão de Medeiros charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Chicão de Medeiros the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Severino Lima showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Iuri Maia in the 62nd minute of the match. During the 63rd minute of the match Edson Batista completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Edson Batista a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 63 played minutes PALMEIRAS got a freekick which was hit by Edson Batista. After having played for 67 minutes, Humberto de Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pekudei's supporters crossed their fingers, but Humberto de Sena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Norberto Salles made in the 78th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Pekudei's Humberto de Sena. Iuri Maia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Iuri Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Norberto Salles's late challenge caught a Pekudei's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Norberto Salles helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to PALMEIRAS getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Norberto Salles hit a great ball. When the match clock showed 95 minutes, the score became 1-4 when Iuri Maia sped through PALMEIRAS's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Severino Lima. PALMEIRAS were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Pekudei's much stronger midfield.
