When Romário Pires came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Caneleiros da Várzea fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Romário Pires couldn't finish the play. Manoel Palmeira blasted a shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bernardo Montenegro having to make a save. 25 minutes into the game, Carlos Fernando Paraíba was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Caneleiros da Várzea's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mandaguari SC the free kick. Tiaguinho Almeida fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Vítor de Alcântara having to interfere. Romário Pires recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dênis Camargo's late challenge caught a Mandaguari SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dênis Camargo helped the player get up and apologised. The Caneleiros da Várzea manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Mandaguari SC to win.
