Edgard Marinhos short, quick shot in the 45thth minute got Raphael Coutinho to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Through an outstanding action, after 47 minutes, Raphael Coutinho successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post.

After a rather tough play, Vasco Da Gama's João Francisco Dias got a free kick in the 52nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Didi de Lima managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vasco Da Gama's supporters rose to their feet, but Didi de Lima was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Raphael Coutinho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
