Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Edgard Marinho took the kick off in the first half of the match. Elano Miranda showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Didi de Lima, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. When Edgard Marinho came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Vasco Da Gama fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edgard Marinho couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edgard Marinho in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Elano Miranda saved Vieiras from getting behind. Elano Miranda made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edgard Marinho in the 26th minute. Didi de Lima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Elano Miranda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Didi de Lima, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. João Francisco Dias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elano Miranda having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Vieiras's Fernandão de Medeiros got a free kick in the 45th minute. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Elano Queiroz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elano Miranda having to interfere. Hélio Gaúcho's late challenge caught a Vasco Da Gama's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hélio Gaúcho helped the player get up and apologised. In the 59th match minute, Vieiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hélio Gaúcho to maneuver through the defense. Didi de Lima kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. The attack was good, but when Didi de Lima in the 63rd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. 65 minutes into the match, Vieiras's goal looked a bit too open when Edgard Marinho came free, but Elano Miranda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Didi de Lima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Vieiras's Hélio Gaúcho got a free kick in the 68th minute. Clóvis Queirós hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. After 75 played minutes, Vasco Da Gama's Edgard Marinho shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Elano Miranda came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Vasco Da Gama reached it. 77 minutes into the match, Vieiras's goal looked a bit too open when Elano Queiroz came free, but Elano Miranda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 86 minutes, Augusto Fernandes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vieiras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Augusto Fernandes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Valdir Braga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Augusto Fernandes in the 90th minute of play. Didi de Lima might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Elano Miranda. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Didi de Lima ran back to his position shaking his head. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Vasco Da Gama fully deserved thier win.
