Ernesto Rossi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vilfes FC. Marcos Urbano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Valdomiro Toledo charged in rather forcefully in the 16th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Valdomiro Toledo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 16 played minutes Fluminense FC got a freekick which was hit by Valdomiro Toledo. Ernesto Rossi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antônio Cavalcante, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After some careless play in the Fluminense FC defense, Zézinho de Barros kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ernesto Rossi. The Fluminense FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ernesto Rossi should have stopped the shot. Vilfes FC's Antônio Cavalcante got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sebastião Fernandes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from André Nóbrega in the 27th minute of play. Antônio Cavalcante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 33rd minute, Zézinho de Barros made a precise shot to the right of Ernesto Rossi. Fluminense FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. If Zézinho de Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vilfes FC's Marcos Urbano got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sebastião Fernandes made a fantastic save in the 44th minute, when Valdomiro Toledo sent off a good shot on target. Ernesto Rossi came out of the goal in the 46th minute to try and stop a shot by Vilfes FC's Zézinho de Barros. But to his dismay, Zézinho de Barros quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. After the first half Vilfes FC were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zézinho de Barros to make the kick off. Zézinho de Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 65 minutes into the game, Zézinho de Barros cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Ernesto Rossi was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The crowd rose to their feet as Antônio Cavalcante kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ernesto Rossi. That made the score 0-5 in the 72 minute of play. A hard shot 79 in the game by Zézinho de Barros from a close distance when the talented Ernesto Rossi managed to make a qualified save. Fluminense FC's players were relieved. When Vilfes FC's Marcos Urbano in the 85th minute got a chance for a shot 85th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Fluminense FC's goalie prevented a goal. Ernesto Rossi made an important save on a dangerous shot by Marcos Urbano in the 90th minute. Zézinho de Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ernesto Rossi having to interfere. Vilfes FC's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
