With a little luck, Madureira's Cristian Coelho got control of the ball when Benjamin Marinho tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 17 minutes, Murilo Neto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. E.C.Pelotas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Murilo Neto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 18 minutes into the match, Madureira's goalkeeper Cristian Coelho had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Murilo Neto. In the 19th match minute, Madureira was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Durvalino Mello to maneuver through the defense. 3-0 became the score in the 20th minute when Murilo Neto elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. In the 24th minute Alfonso Leon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristian Coelho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 29 minutes, Teodoro Magalhães mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Madureira and the E.C.Pelotas players grew even worse after the yellow card. Benjamin Marinho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cristian Coelho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. The shot was a little too simple and Cristian Coelho could save by the left post. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Durvalino Mello to make the kick off. The supporters of E.C.Pelotas booed when Madureira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Glauco Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball.
