The audience thought a goal was coming when Luisinho Mangueira got free with Edson Maciel in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Przemyslaw Ankiewicz in the 24th minute of play forced SPFC's goalkeeper Dida Mazzola to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luisinho Mangueira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Edson Maciel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, ABC RN's Délio Nóbrega got a free kick in the 66th minute. Herminio Izel, 67 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal.
