Luís de Moraes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 4th minute of the match, but Lúcio Simões made a huge save. Tiburcio Iago received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Elder Moreira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Claudinei Lopez's late challenge caught a FC Schalke 04's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Taborda FC's Elder Moreira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tiburcio Iago in the 20th minute of play. After 23 played minutes FC Schalke 04 got a freekick which was hit by Tiburcio Iago. After 25 minutes of play, FC Schalke 04's Gheorghe Baldu made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Elder Moreira was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 32nd minute Tiburcio Iago shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elder Moreira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In a very dangerous position, a player in Taborda FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 33rd minute. Penalty! Douglas Bertassi scored 0-3 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Elder Moreira, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Taborda FC's zone, Tiburcio Iago stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Elder Moreira came out of the goal and Tiburcio Iago tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luís de Moraes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Lúcio Simões made a huge save. After having played for 42 minutes, Gilberto Valladares managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Taborda FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gilberto Valladares was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Robert Kordalewski managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Schalke 04's supporters rose to their feet, but Robert Kordalewski was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Elder Moreira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Lúcio Simões showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís de Moraes, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. In the 54th minute, Jefferson Amaral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Elder Moreira was out of position in the 63 minute of play, and Tiburcio Iago capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Tiburcio Iago really showed his touch with that goal: 0-4. Gilberto Valladares's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lúcio Simões read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. Lúcio Simões came out of the goal in the 72nd minute to try and stop a shot by Taborda FC's Luís de Moraes. But to his dismay, Luís de Moraes quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. If Luís de Moraes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 83rd minute, Tiburcio Iago left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Schalke 04 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-5. The supporters of FC Schalke 04 booed when Taborda FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcinho de Lima didn't get a good kick on the ball.
