Fernandão Recife fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Patrick Arantes having to interfere. Ronaldo Medeiros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcelinho Lopez in the 25th minute of play. The supporters of Gato Morto booed when Montevideo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Olavo Matorin didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 37th minute Marcelinho Lopez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldo Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Montevideo defense, Gugu Vinhas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ronaldo Medeiros. The Montevideo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ronaldo Medeiros should have stopped the shot. Laerte Lucas struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olavo Matorin in the 62nd minute of play forced Gato Morto's goalkeeper Patrick Arantes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 64th match minute, Montevideo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Laerte Lucas to maneuver through the defense. After 69 played minutes, Montevideo's Wilson Fernandez shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Patrick Arantes came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. Gugu Vinhas came free with the goalkeeper in the 92nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Ronaldo Medeiros could save by the left post. Fernandão Recife fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Patrick Arantes having to interfere. Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelinho Lopez in the 97th minute of play. The Gato Morto supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Gato Morto would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
