With an all-out effort, Squadra Sulista's Gualterio Tavio threw himself towards the right post 47 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ronaldinho do Vale, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

After 62 minutes, Tato Vega mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bigode Grosso and the Squadra Sulista players grew even worse after the yellow card. Bigode Grosso's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
