The attack was good, but when Lázaro Artaldo in the 11th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Juan-Francisco Sainz took the ball and in the 12 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Venancio Pelagius. Venancio Pelagius dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Venancio Pelagius made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severo Otsoa in the 15th minute of play. 18 minutes in the game, Lázaro Artaldo fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Venancio Pelagius having to interfere. If Isidro Playo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Juan-Francisco Sainz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Lázaro Artaldo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Venancio Pelagius took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lázaro Artaldo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alejo Blai scored 2-0 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Venancio Pelagius, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 32nd match minute, Independencia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan-Francisco Sainz to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Gasoducto AFC's zone, Juan-Francisco Sainz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Venancio Pelagius came out of the goal and Juan-Francisco Sainz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fernan Silbestre kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Venancio Pelagius showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Severo Otsoa in the 38th minute of the match. Severo Otsoa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Venancio Pelagius having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Songurhan Gümüşsoy's late challenge caught a Gasoducto AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Songurhan Gümüşsoy helped the player get up and apologised. When the match had been going on for 53 minutes, Gasoducto AFC's Laureano Calvet got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Fabien Barthez. After a defensive mix-up in Gasoducto AFC's zone, Lázaro Artaldo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Venancio Pelagius came out of the goal and Lázaro Artaldo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 62nd minute, Lázaro Artaldo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Venancio Pelagius was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. Fabien Barthez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cleto Innocenzio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nacho Scocco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Venancio Pelagius tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Lázaro Artaldo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Venancio Pelagius was relentless in the 71st minute of the game. Nacho Scocco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Venancio Pelagius tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Juan-Francisco Sainz kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. If Alejo Blai had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lázaro Artaldo in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Venancio Pelagius saved Gasoducto AFC from getting behind. When Isidro Playo came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Gasoducto AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Isidro Playo couldn't finish the play. 98 minutes into the match, Independencia's goal looked a bit too open when Cleto Innocenzio came free, but Fabien Barthez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
