The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Tomas Azevedo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The supporters of Abramo booed when Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roque James didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Abramo's Norberto Gorka got control of the ball when Isaias Benvido tried to sneak it across the goal line. Norberto Gorka came out of the goal in the 48th minute to try and stop a shot by Independiente's Dino do Vale. But to his dismay, Dino do Vale quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.
