Herminio Bras fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uriel Egun having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Tiburcio Hermon had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Elvio Sazon. Moristen Madrid FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tiburcio Hermon was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Elvio Sazon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tiburcio Hermon in the 21st minute of play. Jose Guillelmus might have been able to make a better finish in the 22nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Uriel Egun. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jose Guillelmus ran back to his position shaking his head. Esteve Txurio's late challenge caught a Moristen Madrid FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Esteve Txurio helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Moristen Madrid FC booed when Club Atl. Vélez Sarsfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aquiles Fidele charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aquiles Fidele the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 47 played minutes Club Atl. Vélez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Aquiles Fidele. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tiburcio Hermon to make the kick off.
