The audience thought a goal was coming when Siro Gorri got free with Guaberto Socorro in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Ismael Boni fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Defensores de Lugano's protests and gave Ismael Boni a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Defensores de Lugano's Ismael Boni got a free kick in the 21st minute. Many of Estrella Federal's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Estrella Federal may have spent more time on the ball, but Defensores de Lugano were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
